Simple Tips for Living Life as a Travelling Vegan

There are many things in life that do not mix well; oil & vinegar, Tom & Jerry, and toothpaste & orange juice, just to name a few. However, contrary to what many believe, veganism and travelling are two things that go very well together. While it may seem like an impossible task to stick with your diverse recipes and vegan lifestyle while travelling abroad, it has become increasingly easier to mold the two into a cohesive life. Vegan chef and world traveler, Christina Galioto, shares a few tips on how you can be a happy, healthy, travelling vegan.

  • Research your Options: The best way to prepare yourself for travelling as a vegan is through knowledge. Take the time to research your options ahead of time. Utilize social media sites and travel blogs to your advantage.
  • Carry Vegan Snacks: Whether it’s on the plane or touring around the city, hunger can strike at any time. While some places do have vegan snacks, others are not as up to speed. Make it easy on yourself and carry your favorite vegan snacks for those puckish moments.
  • Find Local Vegans: Expand your network of vegans and travel buddies by reaching out to likeminded locals. They can teach you all the great local spots, necessary phrases, and best fresh produce places in the event you want to cook on your own.
  • Adjust your Accommodations Accordingly: Reach out to your accommodations ahead of time and let them know of your specific diet. Many places are really receptive to this and will either accommodate your dietary needs in-house or can recommend great places in town that are vegan-friendly.

Living as a vegan doesn’t mean being stuck to the confines of your current city and munching on the same quinoa salad every day.  Go out, see the world, and satisfy your hunger for travel and delicious vegan food. It’s out there!
